Indiana nonprofits reported greater demand for their services even before the COVID-19 pandemic reduced many organizations’ capacity to provide them, according to a new report from the Indiana Nonprofits Project at Indiana University.
The Women’s Philanthropy Institute today released its second annual Women & Girls Index (WGI), the only comprehensive index that measures charitable giving to women’s and girls’ causes in the United States. This year’s report offers the first multi-year look at how philanthropic support for women’s and girls’ organizations has changed in recent years.

Respected philanthropy scholar Una Osili, Ph.D., has been appointed Efroymson Chair in Philanthropy at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IU Indianapolis, school officials announced today. Osili is Associate Dean for Research and International Programs and Dean’s Fellow for the Mays Family Institute on Diverse Philanthropy at the school. She also is Professor of Economics and Philanthropic Studies. She will continue to serve in those roles.
The Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IU Indianapolis today released the 2020 Global Philanthropy Tracker (GPT), the first such report since 2016. With data from 47 countries and economies across the globe, it is the world’s most holistic measure of the scope and magnitude of cross-border philanthropy. The GPT also compares cross-border philanthropy to three other cross-border financial resource flows, including official development assistance (ODA) from government, private capital investment, and remittances.
A new report published by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IU Indianapolis and funded by a grant from Schwab Charitable examines nonprofit organizations’ perceptions of donor-advised funds (DAFs) and how nonprofits solicit, manage and steward DAF gifts. The report includes recommendations for both nonprofits and DAF sponsoring organizations to improve their collaboration in order to enhance and expand charitable giving.
Faculty members of the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IU Indianapolis are being honored with four prestigious awards from the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA). Tyrone Freeman, David King and Shariq Siddiqui will be honored for their research during the association’s national conference Nov. 12-14. ARNOVA is a leading network of researchers, university faculty and practice leaders who focus on these subjects in their teaching, writing and policy work.
Many U.S. religious congregations currently are entering their annual fall fundraising and budget-planning season with uncertainty about their finances and reopening plans as the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn continue, according to a new survey of congregational leaders conducted by Lake Institute on Faith + Giving. The report examines trends in giving and participating in congregations, as well as how congregations are managing their finances and responding to the impact of the pandemic, and what they anticipate for 2021.
