Bank of America executive will lead advisory group that advances understanding of women’s philanthropy through research, education
Dianne Chipps Bailey has been selected as the new chair of the Women’s Philanthropy Institute (WPI) Council. The WPI Council comprises individuals committed to advancing the vision and mission of WPI, serving as ambassadors and strengthening the institute’s impact globally. WPI is a program of the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IU Indianapolis.
Bailey is Managing Director and National Philanthropic Strategy Executive for Philanthropic Solutions at Bank of America. Her team advises individuals and families on their charitable giving strategies, as well as nonprofit endowment investment management clients with their strategic visioning, mission advancement, risk management, governance and board dynamics. She previously was vice chair of the WPI Council and has been a member since 2016. She succeeds previous chair Kathleen Loehr.
“I had the pleasure of working with Dianne for four years as vice chair of the advisory council. I know she will bring focus, strategy, tenacity and creativity to her role as the chair,” Loehr said. “Dianne is well grounded in the WPI research that gender matters and she will be an exceptional leader in finding new ways to amplify how to translate this important research into practice.”
In addition to her current position at Bank of America, Bailey has more than 20 years of experience working with nonprofits. While previously working as an attorney, her practice was dedicated to representing tax-exempt organizations, their senior management and volunteer leaders. She has represented schools and universities, churches and other religious organizations, endowments, supporting organizations, corporate and family foundations, sports philanthropies, museums, business leagues, social clubs, trade organizations and a complement of charitable groups.
“I’m excited and honored to serve as chair of the Women’s Philanthropy Institute, which does so much to increase understanding of women’s generosity and to assist women in creating even greater impact for the causes they support,” Bailey said. “Women are powerful leaders in philanthropy, from the grassroots to the largest institutions. Our Women’s Philanthropy Institute initiatives provide new insights that increase the self-awareness and acumen of women as donors while also helping nonprofits strengthen their strategies for engaging women philanthropists to make a meaningful difference together.”
Bailey’s professional commitment to philanthropy also is deeply personal. She has served on many nonprofit boards and is a passionate advocate for women’s leadership. In addition to her role with the Women’s Philanthropy Institute, Bailey is a past president of Women Executives and a founding director of Women’s Impact Fund and Philanos, the national network of women’s
collective giving circles. She is a frequent speaker and commentator on topics related to best practices and trends in philanthropy. In her TEDx Talk, Bailey makes The Case for Fierce Optimism.
“Dianne brings a wealth of experience and a passion for women’s issues to her role as chair. She is a recognized leader in the collective giving movement and a fierce advocate for women finding their voice through generosity,” said Jeannie Sager, Director of the Women’s Philanthropy Institute. “Her infectious enthusiasm and strategic guidance will elevate and amplify WPI’s mission to help grow women’s philanthropy.”
