Lake Institute on Faith & Giving’s Lake Lecture will explore “The Soul of Money” and how our relationship with money affects the difference we make in the lives of others
Lynne Twist, best-selling author of The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Life and Money, will explain how your own financial story and beliefs limit your relationship with money. Speaking at a free, public event in Indianapolis on April 11, she will show how you can realign that relationship, discover your own sufficiency and inner wealth, and build a relationship with money that aligns with your core values and purpose.
“Most of us feel that we are doing something wrong with money, no matter what our financial circumstances. Whether we are people of great wealth or economically disadvantaged, our relationship with money often harbors anxiety and fear,” Twist said. “When we shift from a mindset of scarcity to a mindset of sufficiency, we can relinquish the fear and instead see the abundance and generosity that is available to each of us.”
The principle of sufficiency Twist espouses says “When you let go of trying to get more of what you don’t really need, it frees up oceans of energy to make a difference with what we have. When we make a difference with what we have – it expands.”
Twist will give the 16th Annual Thomas H. Lake Lecture, “The Soul of Money: Shifting from Scarcity to Abundance,” on April 11. The lecture will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a reception and book signing to follow. Registration is requested. The event will be held at Indiana Landmarks, 1201 Central Ave., Indianapolis, IN, 46202. It is presented by Lake Institute on Faith & Giving, a part of the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IU Indianapolis.
“Lynne’s approach to thinking about financial resources provides a fresh perspective on the way money impacts our lives and our society,” said David P. King, Ph.D., the Karen Lake Buttrey Director of the institute. “Her principles for managing money provide an alternative to more limited ways of thinking and empower us to consider how we can responsibly deploy our resources to support, sustain and serve others.”
As founder of the Soul of Money Institute, Twist has worked with people in 50 countries on issues such as personal relationships with money, conscious philanthropy, and fundraising with integrity, in settings ranging from keynote presentations to one-on-one coaching. She has co-presented and shared the stage with influential thought leaders including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Oprah Winfrey and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
An engaging storyteller as well as a global fundraiser and an activist for women and indigenous people, Twist will share insights gleaned from around the world to discuss mindsets of scarcity and sufficiency, explore the “three toxic myths of scarcity,” and address how financial and other key resources can flow and nourish individuals and society.
