Purpose
The internship fund is designed for students enrolled in the Master’s of Arts in Philanthropic Studies program to help defray the costs of internships for students as well as provide a resource for living expenses, especially when the internship is without pay.
Procedures
Eligible students may apply at any time during the year as funds will be given on a rolling basis. Students may request support regardless if their internship is paid or unpaid but preference will be given to internships that are unpaid and are not in the greater Indianapolis area.
The amount of funds paid to the recipient(s) will depend on the student need and the amount available in the fund. The scholarship committee will make every attempt to award an amount that is feasible for the student based on the opportunity at hand and the overall needs of every student applying.
Requirements
To be eligible for the award a student must have:
- A cumulative GPA of 3.25.
- Completed at least 18 credit hours of coursework by the time of the internship.
- Selected an internship site, faculty supervisor and site supervisor.
- Received permission to enroll in the internship course, PHST P-590.
- Filed appropriate paperwork from the Internship Handbook with Student Services (i.e. Form 1 and Form 2).
Applicants are also required to submit a one-page Internship Prospectus, which should include theoretical expectations and projected learning outcomes, logistical information about the job to be performed, job location, and what project(s) will be part of the internship. You should also briefly explain why you selected your internship site.
Please include a Budget Analysis, which outlines your case for internship support. This section is very important and should provide enough information so that the committee can fully and easily understand the full extent of your need. If you have any questions, please contact us at apsop@iu.edu.
