Social Media Strategies for Effective Fundraising

Throughout this course, you will explore the fundamental principles and strategies of optimizing social media for fundraising purposes. You will learn how to create compelling content that captures the attention of your target audience and aligns with your organization's mission. Discover the techniques for crafting impactful social media posts, including engaging storytelling, persuasive messaging, and utilizing visuals to evoke emotion and inspire action.

In addition, you will gain insights into social media analytics and measurement tools to track the performance of campaigns. Explore key performance indicators (KPIs) and learn how to interpret data to make informed decisions and optimize social media strategies for maximum impact.

Schedule

The live, virtual class is held over three sessions from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern and hosted using the Zoom platform.

The May 8-22, 2025 virtual class will be held on the following dates:

Session 1: Thursday, May 8, 2025
Session 2: Thursday, May 15, 2025
Session 3: Thursday, May 22, 2025

The October 28-November 11, 2025 virtual class will be held on the following dates:

Session 1: Tuesday, October 28, 2025
Session 2: Tuesday, November 4, 2025
Session 3: Tuesday, November 11, 2025

The March 26-April 9, 2026 virtual class will be held on the following dates:

Session 1: Thursday, March 26, 2026
Session 2: Thursday, April 2, 2026
Session 3: Thursday, April 9, 2026

Objectives

  • Understand the role of social media in the context of fundraising and its potential to reach and engage a wide audience.
  • Explore effective techniques for storytelling through social media to evoke emotions, create connections, and inspire action.
  • Develop skills to create engaging and visually appealing social media posts that capture attention and encourage interaction that align with the organization’s mission and resonates with the target audience.
  • Understand the importance of audience engagement on social media platforms and learn strategies to foster meaningful conversations and build a supportive community around the organization's cause.
  • Gain knowledge of social media analytics tools and learn how to track and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of social media campaigns.
  • Understand the role of social media advertising in expanding the reach of fundraising campaigns and learn how to develop targeted and impactful social media advertising campaigns.
  • Recognize the role that generative AI can play in your social media fundraising efforts.
  • Gain an understanding of ethical considerations and guidelines related to social media use for fundraising, including privacy, transparency, and legal obligations.

CFRE Education Points

Full participation in many of The Fund Raising School’s courses fulfill education point requirements for Category 1.B-Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
