Digital library to support Black Churches and philanthropic organizations coming together to create lasting impact
Lake Institute on Faith & Giving, a part of the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, in partnership with the Center for the Church and the Black Experience at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, is proud to announce the launch of the Philanthropy and the Black Church resource library. This comprehensive digital collection offers decades of research and insight into the historical and future role of philanthropy within Black faith communities, providing tools for both Black Churches and philanthropic institutions to form equal and lasting partnerships.
Rooted in a collaborative effort that began in the 20th century, the Philanthropy and the Black Church project was originally created to highlight the importance of mutual understanding between these two powerful sectors. Today, Lake Institute and Garrett Seminary continue this mission by offering a resource library designed to strengthen relationships, foster trust, and empower leaders to shape the future of faith and giving.
This initiative explores the rich history of philanthropy in Black Churches, how Black faith communities have historically influenced giving, and how they can continue to do so through strategic collaboration with philanthropic organizations. The resource library also provides innovative tools to help both sectors address pressing social justice issues and create sustainable community impact.
Philanthropic leaders and Black Church leaders alike are invited to explore the new resource library and use these materials to build deeper, trust-based partnerships that will transform communities for generations to come.
