Biography
Shivant Shrestha, M.A., is a Research Associate on the Research Team at the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Shivant joined the team in 2021 and brings particular expertise on research related to giving to environmental conservation and climate change, as well as skills in communications and editorial and project management.
He currently serves as the Associate Editor and Production Manager for Giving USA, the longest-running and most comprehensive annual report on the sources and uses of charitable giving in the U.S. In addition, he has led research projects such as Mapping U.S. Nonprofit Spending on Climate Change, and Digital For Good: A Global Study on Emerging Ways of Giving. He has also worked on the Million Dollar List, Communities of Color Index, and the Global Philanthropy Environmental Index.
Shivant joined the MA program at the school in 2019 as a recipient of the McKinney Philanthropic Fellowship. While pursuing his degree, Shivant served as a Community Programs and Development Fellow at The Nature Conservancy in Indiana. Post graduation, he served as a Program Consultant for the Environmental Grantmakers Association where he assisted with signature events, membership services, communications, and the research program. Shivant was also a Visiting Research Fellow for the Earth Sciences Department at the IU Indianapolis School of Science where he was engaged in making tree surveys, monitoring urban green spaces, and developing education programs in Indianapolis.
Shivant was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal and graduated Cum Laude from Knox College in Illinois in 2019 with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Integrative Business & Management. He completed his M.A. in Philanthropic Studies from IU Indianapolis in 2021.
