Biography
Andrew Hibel is co-founder and the chief operating officer of the leading academic job board, HigherEdJobs. While serving as a planned giving officer at Penn State University, Andy met his fellow HigherEdJobs co-founders and together they devised that there must be a better way to pursue careers in higher ed. With this simple vision, they founded HigherEdJobs, and Andy found himself diverted from planned giving to a different career. Never wanting to step too far away from planned giving, however, Andy continued his involvement in planned giving through a multitude of ways.
Andy’s passion for planned giving started with a job interning with the University of Illinois Foundation. His planned giving career further took off with positions that included a full-time planned giving officer for Penn State University, Advocate Health Care and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago prior to committing to HigherEdJobs full time.
While operating HigherEdJobs, Andy remained involved in the planned giving community, namely forming a public charity with his wife and two former colleagues focused on planned giving, serving the Chicago Council on Planned Giving as a conference co-chair (1999), Vice President (2000 and 2017), President (2018-2020) and Kohr Award recipient (2022). Andy is also a member of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners Leadership Institute.
Andy and Elizabeth actively volunteer for the Planned Giving Initiative (PGI), a primary initiative of The Hibel Family Foundation which they created in 2020. PGI brings collaboration and education to efforts that can dramatically increase the accessibility and integration of planned giving both to organizations who will benefit by implementing a planned giving program and those seeking a career in planned giving.
Andy holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Education (Higher Education) from the University of Illinois, Urbana and a Juris Doctor from Indiana University, Indianapolis.
