Walter Panzirer will speak at Indiana University Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS– The Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy will host Walter Panzirer, Trustee of the Helmsley Charitable Trust, on October 15 at 2 p.m. ET. Panzirer will engage in a conversation with Diane Kaplan, Senior Fellow, and Dr. Amir Pasic, Dean of the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy as part of the school’s Public Policy and Philanthropy series.
This is a hybrid event: guests are invited to join in person at University Hall, Room 1006 or via Zoom.
Walter Panzirer serves as a Trustee of the Helmsley Charitable Trust, one of the largest private philanthropies engaged in global grantmaking. He is committed to improving rural healthcare across the United States and supporting high-impact work in sub-Saharan Africa.
Before joining the Trust more than 15 years ago, Panzirer worked as a paramedic, firefighter, and police officer in California and South Dakota, where he witnessed the disparities in healthcare access. Today, he channels that experience into transformative philanthropic investments that promote resilience and innovation—from rural health solutions to reducing plastic pollution in the ocean.
The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy seeks to advance the understanding of the vital connections between philanthropy and policy. To this end, it is convening a series of interviews with leaders who can help illuminate how philanthropy can inform and influence key areas of policy that affect human well-being, and the ways in which policy shapes the strategies that are available to philanthropy as it pursues the public good. The purpose of these conversations is to inform a research agenda that will advance understanding of how philanthropy can engage policy usefully, and also what kinds of policy architectures are most conducive to the kinds of philanthropy that foster a vibrant civil society.
The event is free, but registration is required for both the in-person and online attendees.
