Three IU Indianapolis alumnae will be presented with the Maynard K. Hine Medal at a ceremony on Sept. 23 in Indianapolis. The award recognizes alumni and volunteer leaders for their contributions in support of the campus and its alumni programs.

The 2021 recipients are Kareema S. Boykin, Robyn L. Moberly, and Genevieve G. Shaker, all of Indianapolis.

The Hine Medal, given annually since 1974, is named for the first chancellor of the IU Indianapolis campus. Maynard K. Hine maintained that a strong alumni program was essential for the university. Recipients will receive a bronze medal engraved with Hine's profile.

The following are brief biographies of each recipient:

Kareema S. Boykin

Kareema S. Boykin, MSW'06, is a trauma counselor with Eskenazi Health's Legacy House in Indianapolis, where she works with children and young adults who are victims of violence. She was raised in East Chicago, Ind., and earned her undergraduate degree from Ball State University. She later graduated from the IU School of Social Work.

For her service and leadership within the profession, Boykin was presented in 2019 with the Distinguished Service Award by the IU School of Social Work Alumni Association. She has also served as president of the School of Social Work Alumni Association.

Robyn L. Moberly

Robyn L. Moberly, BA'75, JD'78, was sworn in as the first female judge of Indiana's U.S. Bankruptcy Court in 2012. Prior to her appointment, she served as a general practitioner for 17 years, then as a judge for 16 years on the Superior Court bench in Indianapolis, where she presided over the major felony and civil courts.

Moberly has been active in the legal community, having served as president of the IU McKinney School of Law Alumni Association, member of the Board of Visitors for the IU McKinney School of Law, president of the Indiana Judges Association, president and board member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, board member of the Indiana Judicial Conference, and associate presiding judge of the Marion (County) Superior Court.

Genevieve G. Shaker

Genevieve G. Shaker, MA'98, PhD'08, is an associate professor at the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, where she was selected by her fellow alumni in 2015 to receive the school's inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award. Prior to her current role, she served as associate dean for development and external affairs for the School of Liberal Arts at IU Indianapolis.

Shaker is vice chair and chair-elect on the board of the American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis and serves as chair of the philanthropy committee. She volunteers for the Children's Museum of Indianapolis and the St. Vincent de Paul Boulevard Place Food Pantry. Shaker is an active supporter of the IU schools of liberal arts, philanthropy, and education and their alumni.
