Four-year scholarships to IU Indianapolis’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy will let incoming first-year students earn a degree in helping others; Apply by May 1

Monday, March 25, 2019

Gift from the Thomasson Family will prepare undergraduates to become future nonprofit organization leaders

First-year students entering the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IU Indianapolis in fall 2019 will have the opportunity to earn four-year scholarships because of a generous gift from the Thomasson Family.

Students applying to IU Indianapolis to major in Philanthropic Studies at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy are eligible to apply for two, merit-based, undergraduate scholarships open to Indiana and out-of-state students. The gift will provide scholarships equivalent to the cost of tuition and fees, room and board and books, as well as support for a semester of study abroad.

“IU Indianapolis is fortunate to have such generous champions in the Thomasson Family. Their support reinforces the environment of support we aim to create for all of our students so that they can succeed at the highest levels,” said Nasser H. Paydar, chancellor of IU Indianapolis and executive vice president of Indiana University.

Graduates of the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy serve in change-making positions in nonprofit organizations, corporations and government. Their work helps change lives and communities and influences education, social services, health, arts and culture, animals, the environment and many other endeavors that make a lasting difference.

“The family intends their gift to help prepare Lilly Family School of Philanthropy students to become innovative leaders who will thoughtfully guide nonprofit organizations to make a meaningful difference,” said Amir Pasic, Ph.D., the Eugene R. Tempel Dean of the school. “We are grateful to the Thomasson Family for this wonderful gift, which will help our Thomasson Scholars learn and grow from their first moments at our school through their senior year.”

Students at the school have a passion for making a difference in the lives of others, for community service, or for supporting a cause or meeting a need. The school’s Bachelor of Arts in Philanthropic Studies degree program equips students to make their passion their profession, while preparing them for a job and a career in a field that has a tremendous need for new leaders.

“We are fortunate to have the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy in our midst, and to further its cause with great scholars who we have the chance to help financially as they pursue their education,” the Thomasson Family said. “We are excited to allow the Thomasson Scholars to not only change their lives but to impact the world.”
