SHEMAKESCHANGE Focuses On Women, Money,and Philanthropy

Tuesday, September 04, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS—SHEMAKESCHANGE, a new online conference from the Women’s Philanthropy Institute at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, is among the first programs to connect women’s attitudes about money to how they manage their charitable giving.

Through live presentations, panel discussions and sharing research, financial, legal and women’s philanthropy experts and philanthropists will explore how women view money, uproot perceived attitudes about money and philanthropy, and leverage these insights to change the world. Lisa Witter, chief strategy officer, Fenton, and author of The She Spot: Why Women are the Market for Changing the World and How to Reach Them, is the conference moderator.

September 20  “What Women Really Think about Money”
September 27  “Unraveling the Myths”
October 4  “Change Your Strategy and Change the World”

Much is written about women and money, and research on women’s philanthropy is growing. Few opportunities exist, however, to discuss the connections among women, money and philanthropy. SHEMAKESCHANGE brings these issues together for a richer, more nuanced understanding of how women’s attitudes about money shape their charitable giving.

Speakers include:

  • Patricia Annino, partner, Prince, Lobel and Tye, LLP, and author, Women & Money:  A Practical Guide to Estate Planning;
  • Charlotte Beyer, founder and former CEO, Institute for Private Investors and vice chair of the board, Museum of American Finance;
  • Claudia Chan, media entrepreneur, motivational women’s lifestyle expert and founder of claudiachan.com;
  • Debra Mesch, Ph.D., director, Women’s Philanthropy Institute;
  • Mindy Rosenthal, executive director, Institute for Private Investors, and managing director, Campden Wealth;
  • Barbara Stanny, entrepreneur and author, Prince Charming Isn’t Coming:  How Women Get Smart about Money; and
  • Viviana Zelizer, professor of sociology, Princeton University and author, The Purchase of Intimacy.
