Lilly Family School of Philanthropy Expert to Testify before U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee Today

Osili Will Speak at Hearing on Supporting Charitable Giving During the COVID-19 Crisis

INDIANAPOLIS-Una Osili, Ph.D., Associate Dean at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IU Indianapolis, will testify today, Tues., June 9, before the Joint Economic Committee of the United States Congress.

Osili, who will testify remotely, is Associate Dean for Research and International Programs, and Dean's Fellow leading the Mays Family Institute on Diverse Philanthropy at the school. She is one of four witnesses expected to speak during the hearing. The other witnesses are U.S. Senators James Lankford (Okla.) and Jean Shaheen (N.H.) and Bill Crim, President and CEO of United Way of Salt Lake in Salt Lake City, Utah. The committee is led by Chairman Sen. Mike Lee (Utah) and U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (Va.).

The hearing will begin at 2:30 p.m. U.S. Eastern Standard Time. It will be livestreamed at

Osili is an internationally recognized expert on economics and philanthropy. She previously has testified before a subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the role of philanthropy and remittances in foreign aid.

An economist, Osili leads the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy's extensive research program, including the school's signature research project the Philanthropy Panel Study, its Global Philanthropy Indices and the research and writing of Giving USA: The Annual Report Philanthropy (published by Giving USA Foundation). She has pioneered new approaches to using data to better understand global and national philanthropic trends in philanthropy. Osili has been quoted by international and national news media outlets such as NPR, The New York Times, Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal. She earned her B.A. in Economics at Harvard University, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University.
