Michelle L. Glennon, Esq.
Michelle Glennon is an accomplished philanthropy executive and nonprofit leader with extensive experience advancing healthcare and higher education institutions through mission-driven philanthropy. She serves as Vice President for Gift Planning for MedStar Health and Vice President for Philanthropy for MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital.
A recognized expert in gift planning, she partners with donors and advisors to design charitable commitments that align with donors’ financial and philanthropic goals and create meaningful impact. As Senior Director of Gift Planning/Senior Philanthropic Advisor at Johns Hopkins University and Medicine, she led the strategic plan for a $900 million campaign gift planning goal and doubled the size of the gift planning team. She launched the Johns Hopkins Legacy Society and Donor Advised Fund and secured multiple eight-figure gifts.
Ms. Glennon is also a respected leader in healthcare philanthropy. For over a decade at Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM), she held senior roles including Interim Vice President and Associate Vice President for Development. She served on the executive leadership development teams for both the University and Medicine.
Her responsibilities spanned clinical, research, and alumni, philanthropy programs. Ms. Glennon led grateful patient philanthropy, healthcare provider partnership, board engagement and gift planning.
Under her direction teams at JHM raised more than $1.6 billion. She integrated JHM’s partner hospitals into the development enterprise, championed culture building and team member professional development and was on the core team that secured a historic $1 billion gift for financial aid from Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Committed to teaching and mentoring, Ms. Glennon served as Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Philanthropy Institute. The institute educates healthcare philanthropy leaders globally. She played a critical role on the Committee on Ethical Issues in Grateful Patient Fundraising, publishing works such as Ethical Issues and Recommendations in Grateful Patient Fundraising and Philanthropy in Academic Medicine (2018).
Ms. Glennon is an active member of several professional organizations including the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) and the Chesapeake Gift Planning Council. She was recently named the inaugural Dean of AHP’s Grateful Patient Philanthropy track for the Madison Summer Institute and served as Chair of the 2025 AHP International Conference. She has presented at national conferences including AAMC, ACGA, AHP, CASE, and NCGP. Ms. Glennon holds a J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law and a B.A. in English from Loyola University Maryland. She is passionate about strengthening communities, empowering teams to achieve meaningful impact and aiding donors in achieving their philanthropic goals.
