John M. Carreon
With over 29 years of executive leadership experience in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors, John has developed a career focused on nonprofit sustainability planning and organizational development. He has extensive experience in vision-based strategic planning, major gifts, capital campaigns, organizational development, planned giving, board development, and leadership coaching.
John is currently Chief Advancement Officer of AbleLight, a national based disability services nonprofit who believes in life-changing services that empower people with developmental disabilities to thrive and achieve their fullest potential. John’s primary responsibilities include leadership and oversight of development and marketing & communications operations and activities – establishing a Culture of Philanthropy across the National and Market platform.
Prior to joining AbleLight, John was Partner & CEO of Advancement Experts, a consulting firm dedicated to helping organizations build a culture of philanthropy through Advancement Planning, Vision-Based Strategic Planning, Campaign Planning, Leadership Development & Coaching, and Organizational & Culture Development.
Previously John was Partner & Chief Revenue Officer with Purpose HQ. John’s primary responsibilities included strategic oversight of organizational culture and leadership product design, executive leadership coaching, and leading teams to a purposeful desired culture and outcomes.
Previously John was Chief Advancement Officer for Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana. His primary responsibilities included leadership and oversight of regional development, marketing & communications, and development operations team – establishing a Culture of Philanthropy across the chapter platform.
For the past 20 years, John has also served as a faculty member for the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. John’s teaching focuses on leadership and major gift development, organizational culture and strategic planning, ethics of fundraising, and leadership development.
John is currently serving on the Hispanic Access Foundation Governing Board, Washington, D.C. John received his Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Indiana University and resides in Indianapolis, IN with his wife Kelley and three daughters, Alexis, Celina, and Zoee.
