Hal has spent his career helping donors save money while supporting philanthropy. After practicing as an estate planning attorney in San Francisco, Hal worked with larger planned giving operations at City of Hope National Medical Center and UC Berkeley and then led the planned giving team at the University of Oregon.
Hal then expanded his responsibilities to help entire development operations utilize planned giving as an effective tool to enhance major giving while leading the development teams at Oregon Athletics, Lewis & Clark College and Clark College. Under the name of Hal J. Abrams Planned Giving Consultant, Hal now consults education, social services, medical and arts organizations across the country. He helps his clients grow by becoming more strategic and efficient with their in-person and marketing communications and coaching fundraisers to raise the giving sights of their donors.
Hal is a regular speaker at national and regional gift planning conferences, including recent speaking engagements with the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners, Northern California Planned Giving Conference and the Northwest Planned Giving Round Table. Hal lives in Portland, Oregon and looks for excuses to visit his children in Nashville, Seattle and Los Angeles. Hal joined the faculty of The Fund Raising School in 2022.
