Brittany (Brit) Hotaling
Brittany (Brit) Hotaling is the Senior Manager of Individual Giving at United Way California Capital Region, where she leads individual donor engagement and annual fund strategies that support the organization’s mission and long-term impact.
She has built her career in nonprofit development, having previously served as Development Officer at the United Irish Cultural Center, Resource Development Director at Habitat for Humanity Tulare/Kings Counties, and Director of Development and Marketing at Dorothy Day House. Across her roles, Brittany has specialized in helping small organizations build sustainable, values-driven fundraising programs.
Brittany earned her master’s degree in Philanthropic Studies from the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, where her academic excellence earned her induction into the Golden Key International Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
She holds the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential and currently serves as a CFRE Ambassador with CFRE International. She has also attained the Certificate in Fund Raising Management (CFRM) and Certificate in Digital Fund Raising (CDFR) from The Fund Raising School, and she is on track to complete the Certificate in Fund Raising Leadership in June 2025.
Originally from the Northern Appalachian Mountains, Brittany’s lived experience and worldview are foundational assets to the programs she builds, grounding her approach in authenticity, empathy, and community-centered values. Early in her career, after earning a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from SUNY Oneonta, Brittany worked at an NPR affiliate station in the Catskill Mountains of New York, where she served as the local host and producer of Morning Edition in association with NPR. During this time, she also formally began her development career as a Development Associate at the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development, deepening her passion for connecting people to mission-driven work through both storytelling and philanthropy.
Now based just outside of Sacramento, California, Brittany enjoys apartment homesteading, gardening alongside her cat, Lolly, and thru-hiking with her dog, Arlo. Her plant-based lifestyle is part of her broader commitment to intentional and sustainable living.
